Gabriel Cowan has toured the world, playing his music for hundreds of thousands of people, at hundreds of venues, in dozens of countries. He has received two platinum records, and has recorded over ten internationally released albums. In 2003, he began to pursue his love for filmmaking, earning a masters degree in film directing from CalArts in 2008. While there, he wrote and directed over two dozen short films, co-wrote, co-directed, and produced Breathing Room, a psychological thriller, which was sold Worldwide, produced Family of Four, a drama which follows four family members dealing with their desires and limitations, and directed a documentary on forgiveness and reparations in post genocide Rwanda entitled "Flower in the Gun Barrel". He has written four more feature films, the first of which is slated to shoot in the fall of 2008. Gabe founded New Artists Alliance with his partner Amiee Clark. N.A.A. provides funding, marketing and distribution for projects stemming from emerging filmmakers and students.

In 2004, Gabe moved to from California to Ohio to vote and to talk to locals about politics. While there, he spent his time buying drinks for republicans who were willing to share their political views with him in hopes that through informed and respectful debate, he might change some minds. The night before the election, he herniated a disc in his lower back while moving a suitcase. Gabe was able to vote, though he was in great pain, BUT, he was forced to watch the democrats lose, and to stay in Ohio for a week longer than he had planned. After three months in physical therapy, Gabe was up and walking again. He continues to seek out heated and informed political debate.His great-grandfather is George Seitz.Cousins with Spike Jonze.
